Eco Minds Branching Out
Bromley residents that have experienced mental health problems now have the opportunity to “branch out” and participate in activities focused on producing truly positive effects on both their physical and mental wellbeing. Branching Out will provide, through professional trainers, learning in horticulture and conservation for small groups of volunteers. Volunteers will participate two days a week from 10.00am – 3.00pm for six months. The volunteers will work towards their City and Guilds horticultural qualification and also have the opportunity to undertake conservation in Bromley’s parks and green spaces.
Branching Out has been funded by Ecominds, a £7.5 million funding scheme run by Mind on behalf of the BIG Lottery Fund. Ecominds involves people with direct experience of mental distress in environmental projects that improve their mental and physical health, and local communities. It draws together the local organisations of Community Options, Bromley Field Studies Centre, Friends of the Bromley Field Studies Centre, Bromley Mind, Bromley Adult Education College and Friends of Bromley Parks and Green Spaces. In partnership these organisations will run the Branching Out six month course four times between June 2010 and June 2012.
