Statistics show that, at any one time, one in six people will have a mental-health need and one in four of us will experience a mental- health condition during our lifetime. Historically, people with  mental-health issues had a low expectation of recovery, but today the reality is these people are able to lead valued lives in the community. Recovery for each person is different, however, and so is their journey – which is why if people are to achieve their goals, it is important that they receive the appropriate support from services driven by the right values and attitudes.

Promoting the reality of recovery requires a positive and hopeful environment that encourages and values people as human beings. At Community Options we create positive environments that provide hope and promote the idea of recovery. By supporting people on their own individual roads to recovery, at a pace that suits them, we are able to encourage them to think about their aspirations and their plans for life. With these goals firmly in their sights, we can help them to develop a support and daily activity plan, tailored to their individual needs. Additionally, people who use our services are encouraged to develop their own person-centred plan, which enables them to not only manage the services we provide, but also all the services they receive and thus take control of their life.

We all need to feel valued, and even the smallest contributions can make a difference in how an individual might feel about life. We believe that it is vital to be alert to the talents of each person, offering opportunities to contribute whenever possible. This means viewing all individuals as positive contributors to Community Options and the wider community in general.Provision of health and social care services is changing to become more service-user focused, and so our new horizon is the personalisation agenda. We work hard to develop new service models and approaches that will support people to be able to self-assess their needs, and to identify the appropriate support services to meet them.
