Supporting Independence

We have five shared supported housing schemes. The schemes allow flexible needs-led support to be provided.

Staff provide support based on the psychosocial rehabilitation model, promoting the concept of recovery.  The support is flexible and determined by the tenant and their needs. This means that in one week 2 hours of support could be given and in the next 20 with staff sleeping in if required and requested by the Tenant.

The shared supported housing schemes provide people that use our services with a real choice. Often, the thought of living independently is daunting – these schemes allow people to take that initial step with an appropriate level of support and with a group of like minded people.

This is how one tenant feels about living in shared supported housing -

"L
iving in the house gives you a chance to get yourself together and to have people to talk to."

Another tenant, Don, has this view on the house -

"More independence less staff but available if needed.
This is the best house I've lived in since I was a kid because it's in a nice area nice neighbours it has a garden where I can feed the animals and it is quiet. I feel more secure, I can have friends round with more privacy. When I want to be on my own I go to my room and nobody disturbs me. The only disadvantage I can think of is moving on."
